Create your environment: an invitation from Holcim

8 Februarie 2012

Holcim (Romania) together with Concept Foundation and in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research is launching today the educational project "Create your environment!"

The educational project "Create your environment!" is addressing students from Romanian elementary and secondary schools (4th and 5th grade) and it aims at developing at this early age (10-12 years old) a protective civic behavior towards the environment.

In the school year 2004-2005, "Create your environment!" will be implemented as a pilot project in 19 schools from the following cities: Aleşd, Arad, Baia Mare, Bistriţa, Braşov, Bucureşti, Câmpulung Muscel, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Oradea, Piteşti, Ploieşti, Râmnicu-Vâlcea, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Suceava, Timişoara, Târgu Mureş, Turda.

"Create your environment represents, for Holcim Romania, a means of developing Romanian children's positive attitude towards the environment, and at the same time, of getting them acquainted with an adequate terminology. Through this project, Holcim is assuming an active responsibility and is providing information concerning the possible means of protection and preservation of natural resources," stated in the press conference Luminita Beldie, Communication Manager Holcim Romania SA.

One of the most important components of the project in this respect is the publication of four educational volumes: Educational support for 4th grade students, Educational support for 5th grade students, Methodological guide for teachers and a Dictionary. The educational support for students includes information concerning the environment and its components, pollution and types of pollution, but also information about the protection of the environment.

The project is managed by CONCEPT Foundation through its Corporate Social Responsibility programs component. "We became involved in this initiative in order to identify, together with Holcim Romania team, as many activities as possible, through which the project would meet existing needs. Holcim's idea of realising a project that would offer, in an adequate manner, information children need for an active participation in the protection of the environment, is, in our opinion, salutary. We are convinced that, through the creative elements it proposes, "Create your environment!" will enjoy great popularity among students", added Radu Mateescu, Executive President, CONCEPT Foundation.

A communication and creation contest, in which all the schools involved in the project will participate, will also be organized. Holcim will offer the winner school a cement tank for repairs. The number of direct beneficiaries of the pilot-project is over 1.200 students and over 40 teachers.
