Holcim (Romania) organizes today at the cement plant in Campulung The Open Door Day with the theme "Stoenesti Quarry: Sustainable Development for People and Environment". The community, representatives of authorities, of media and of various partner companies will visit the clay quarry and will be informed about the development and rehabilitation plans of the quarry, which translate into investments of some EUR 300,000.

The program of the day for the 1,000 participants includes also a picnic, concerts, activities for children, and various surprises.

The Open Doors Day events in the cement plants of Holcim (Romania), initiated in 2005, are part of the transparent communication of the company with all stakeholders. The environmental protection is one of the priorities of Holcim (Romania) and this is the reason why the Open Doors Day events focus on environmental issues.

"From the very first year in Romania - and this year we celebrate 10 years of presence - we have been developing and implementing European strategies for environmental protection in all cement plants, ready-mixed concrete plants and quarries, which we own and operate. Also, we continue to develop and offer environmentally-friendly and quality products and services," said Markus Wirth, Country Manager of Holcim (Romania).

The extraction of limestone and clay in the quarries is a process with impact on the landscape and the environment. Out of care and respect for the environment, Holcim (Romania) started a plan for the rehabilitation of all operational quarries. The company re-integrates the exploited areas into the surrounding landscape and takes into consideration the options of all parties involved in order to ensure the functioning of the ecosystem and the biodiversity.

"We have specific plans for the development and rehabilitation of each quarry we operate. And, because the environmental protection has a great importance within our commitment for sustainable development, all our activities have a minimum impact on the landscape and environment," said Emil Raicov, Director of Campulung Cement Plant.

During the period 1999 - 2005, the cement plant in Campulung benefited from investments totaling EUR 50 million. Started in 2005, the modernization of the production capacities in Campulung will be finalized in 2008, following an investment worth EUR 120 million.
