New investments for Holcim Cement Plant in Campulung

8 Februarie 2012

Holcim (Romania) announces investments of approximately 105 million Euro in modernizing cement production capacity over 2005-2008. The company will begin the modernization of the plant in Campulung by building the largest grey cement production kiln line in Romania including a pre-blending bed for the raw materials. These operations will mark the final stage of a multi-year process of renewal implemented by Holcim (Romania) at all its cement plants.

The upgrading of Campulung Cement Plant consists of a raw meal preparation and clinker burning line with a kiln capacity of 4000 tones. This will also include a vertical roller mill (with feeding system), preheater with precalciner, kiln, grate cooler, clinker storage and transport and will take place of the three already existing production lines. The technical benefits of the completely automated grey cement production line consist in reducing the electrical and thermal energy consumptions and in the possibility to burn a large range of alternative fuels. The new line will secure a constant quality of cement.

Holcim (Romania) will be able to provide optimal services to the customers in Romania's fast-growing building materials market. As well, the company will make a crucial contribution to the environmental protection. Holcim (Romania) always invests in the development of new solutions for environmentally friendly technologies compliant with European Union norms and offers environmental services to communities, in this respect the new kiln line at the Cement Plant in Campulung being another proof.

The investment plan that Holcim (Romania) has for its Cement Plant in Campulung also includes the Pre-mix project, that is a new pre-blending bed with a storage and blending capacity of 28.000 tones.

This project includes a raw material transportation system, pre-homogenization and transportation to the mill. The main side has an impressive structure of 162 m long, 76 m wide (one span), 25 m height (more than a covered football ground). This innovative solution is a premiere for the Romanian construction market.

"Holcim (Romania) has always invested in quality and performance, also emphasizing the importance of the environmental protection. Therefore the modernization of the new kiln line at our plant in Campulung is dramatically important for our clients as well as for the environment being designed to improve the quality of our products and services but also to maintain and improve the quality of the environment. The grey cement production kiln line in Campulung will replace three old lines. We are proud to say that this will be the biggest and the most modern line in Romania." stated Markus Wirth, Country Manager Holcim (Romania).
