New CEO at Holcim Romania: Markus Wirth to retire after more than 6 years, former VP in Holcim Philippines to succeed

Bucharest, February 15th 2011 – Markus Wirth, CEO of Holcim Romania, will retire from his position on March 31st, after a mandate of more then 6 years in the local subsidiary of the Holcim Group. Daniel Bach, previously the Senior Vice President Manufacturing of Holcim Philippines, will take over the CEO position as of April 1st 2011.

Markus Wirth will remain within the company as President of the Administration Board. An authentic leader with a career that exceeds 35 years, Markus Wirth has also been a prominent member of the local business environment in the role of President at the Chamber of Commerce Switzerland-Romania (CCER), and also as member of the Board of Directors of the Foreign Investment Council (FIC). He will continue his activity in FIC as a Board Member and Expert Consultant in infrastructure issues.

During Wirth’s mandate, Holcim has had a strong development on the local market, increasing its customer base, enlarging the product portfolio, expanding the production capacity of the cement, ready-mix and aggregates operations.

Daniel Bach, Swiss, 47, previously Senior Vice President Manufacturing of Holcim Philippines has 16 years experience in various operational and strategic functions in the cement industry and with experience especially in Asian and African markets. Bach holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) and is an alumnus of various postgraduate programs with INSEAD and IMD.

He joined Holcim in 1994 as a Project Engineer and built a successful career being promoted to Technical Director of Holcim Indonesia. Later on, Daniel Bach was responsible for the development of Holcim operations in China in his role of Assistant to the Executive Committee Member.
