Monday, December 8, 2003, at 6 p.m., Ovidiu Musetescu, the President of Privatization and Administration of State Ownership (APAPS) met with Kurt Habersatter - President and CEO of Holcim (Romania), during an official meeting which took place at APAPS headquarter.
The event took place in order to officially close the privatization files concerning Holcim Ltds's acquisitions from the Romanian State.
"Fulfilling the duties and respecting the promises represent the base of any trustful relationship. The certificates received from stands for the correctness and seriousness of our company" stated Kurt Habersatter.
Investment Obligations Exceeded
Since the taking over of its three cement plants in Romania (Turda, Alesd si Campulung), Holcim complied with all the investment obligations committed to the Romanian state, exceeding the committed amounts by far. Modernization of its production facilities, logistics, environmental protection, worksafety and business expansion in ready-mix concrete and aggregates (gravel and sand) were at the center of the company's initiatives.
"Our company is among the top foreign investors in Romania. The amount of more than EUR 250mil invested since Holcim has arrived in Romania and the official recognitions obtained by now are proofs of the professionalism with which we have taken over responsibilities and show that we are a serious, long-term investor", added Habersatter.
Milestones of a serious and dedicated investor
The total investments Holcim has made until now in Romania in acquisitions, modernization, environmental measures and business expansion have exceeded EUR 250 million. As a proof of respecting the engagements assumed when coming to Romania, 2003 is the year when the biggest investment project will be finalized. The most modern cement production line was commissioned in Alesd, under a Euro 70 mil investment. We just inaugurated the 7th EFCP (Environmentally Friendly Concrete Plant) in Sibiu, plant which cumulate an investment of Euro 1.5 mil. Nevertheless, the investments will continue to run, by 2006 the company foresees investment of another Euro 40 mil.
The permanent concern for offering high quality products and services, the numerous innovations and premiers brought on the local market (Environmental Friendly Concrete Plants, Mini guides for using cement and concrete) received many confirmations and appreciation proofs. The Excellence Awards received in 2002 and 2003 at Construct Expo and at other construction fairs in the country, the Corporate Citizen Award offered this year for the involvement with social projects in the communitarian life of the Bihor county, the Award for Best Strategic Investor in 2001 and the Award for the Most Respected Business Man in the industry, received few weeks ago, are just some of the appreciations come from our business partners, social communities, press and authorities.
