Holcim (Romania) invests EUR 86 million in 2007

Holcim (Romania) invests this year EUR 86 million in a series of projects such as the modernization of the grey cement production line in Campulung which will be finalized in 2008, environmental protection, logistics, environmentally-friendly ready-mixed concrete plants, aggregates plants, programmes for personal and professional development of employees, social responsibility projects.

During the period 1997 - 2006 the company invested over EUR 391 million in projects for business development, modernization of production technology, occupational health and safety, development programmes for employees.

"The development of Holcim (Romania) has been sustainable and this is the reason why we continue to invest in economic performance, environmental protection, and social responsibility projects. One of the most important ongoing investment project is the modernization of the cement plant in Campulung, which will be finalized in 2008. We want to answer efficiently to the needs of the construction materials market which is growing continuously," said Markus Wirth, Country Manager of Holcim (Romania).

Due to favorable weather conditions during the past three years and to the intensified activity in the field of residential and infrastructure projects, the cement market experiences an ascending trend and registers annual growth of about 15%.

Foreseeing the evolution of the construction materials market, Holcim (Romania) initiated the update of its production capacity according to the market. In less than two years after the modernization of the cement plant in Alesd, which took place in 2004, the company started at the end of 2005 the extension of the production capacity of the cement plant in Campulung, as a result of an investment worth some EUR 120 million, which will be finalized in 2008.
