Campulung is celebrating alongside Holcim: Open Doors Day at Holcim Cement Plant in Campulung

Campulung, 31 May 2012– Holcim Romania has organized today the Open Doors Day at its Cement Plant in Campulung, on the occasion of the anniversary of 100 years of Holcim Group in the world and 15 years of presence in Romania. The community members were invited to visit one of the most modern cement plants in Eastern Europe and spend one day of celebration with the Holcim team.

Holcim Cement Plant in Campulung has benefited from investments worth 265 million euros since 1999. Here, Holcim has implemented best available technologies the plant being currently one of the most modern cement plants in Eastern Europe. The largest investment was “Muscel 4000” project, carried out between 2005 and 2010, which consisted in the commissioning of the new clinker line (the raw material used to manufacture cement), worth 200 million euros.
Muscel project consisted of vast upgrading works, following which the plant can take pride in a series of premieres in Romania and Eastern Europe in terms of the cement manufacturing technologies and equipment:

•The pre-homogenization hall with an impressive size - 162 m long, 76 m free opening and 25 m high;
•The largest vertical mill in Romania;
•The highest operating industrial construction in Romania (135 meters)
•The largest clinker silos in Romania, made of reinforced concrete.

The entire production process relies on the use of the best available technologies in the market and their operation in utmost safety conditions. Environmental protection, health and safety, and social responsibility are key priorities for Holcim, being at the heart of its sustainability strategy.

Open Doors Day

The participants in the celebration which took place at Campulung Cement Plant had the opportunity to take tours of the plant, where Holcim specialists offered explanations about the cement manufacturing process, as well as about the modern installations and technologies that allow the plant to operate at the highest level of performance. During this time, the children could play in a special playground, enjoying games, animations, surprises and other dedicated activities.
One point of attraction was also the photo exhibition “100 years in the world, 15 years in Romania”, where the guests could see photos illustrating the history of Holcim Group, which started its activity in Holderbank, Switzerland in 1912, as well as the 15-year presence of Holcim on the Romanian market.
