Anniversary at Turda: Open Doors Day at Holcim Grinding Station and Cement Terminal

Turda, May 26th, 2012 – Today, Holcim Romania hosted the Open Doors Day event at the Grinding Station and Cement Terminal from Turda, with the occasion of the anniversary of 100 years of Holcim Group in the world and 15 years of presence in Romania. The community members had the opportunity to spend one day in the open, with music and entertainment activities, but also to visit the modern technologies installed in Turda over the past years.

The site in Turda is a strategic location for HolcimRomaniain the north-western part of the country, which benefited from investments in the development of special cement production operations over the past few years. The total amount of the investments made by Holcim in the Turda Grinding Station since 1997 exceeds 30 million euro.

In addition to the modernization of the cement manufacturing and logistics facilities and the inauguration of a state-of-the-art laboratory in 2010, the company allocated considerable amounts for various projects, in the following areas: health and safety, reduction of CO2 emissions, optimization of the production flows, quarry rehabilitation, all aimed at fostering environmental protection and sustainable development.

“2012 is an anniversary year for Holcim, both in terms of the celebration of the achievements at Group and Romanian subsidiary level, and in terms of the sound partnerships the company has developed locally. We have chosen to celebrate these achievements with our people and their families, as well as with the extended communities where we operate”, declared Daniel Bach, General Director HolcimRomania.

“We would like this event to be an opportunity for the people in Turda to relax, spending an enjoyable day together. The program offers everybody the possibility to see how the new modernized plant looks like and get to know the activities taking place here. We want people to have a pleasant day and take nice memories home when they leave the plant”, added Alina Sorostineanu, Operations Manager, Turda Grinding Station.

Open Doors Day

The visitors of Turda Grinding Station and Cement Terminal were able to take plant tours, while the children enjoyed many entertainments in the specially designated area. They played with an inflatable slide, a climbing wall, pony rides, clown animations and other special activities.

The main point of attraction was the photo exhibition “100 years in the world, 15 years inRomania”, where the guests will see photos illustrating the history of Holcim Group, which started its activity inHolderbank,Switzerlandin 1912, as well as the 15-year presence of Holcim on the Romanian market. Turda was the first location where Holcim Group entered the Romanian market in 1997. Later, the company continued its expansion inRomaniaby acquiring the cement plants in Campulung and Alesd, and developing its network of ready-mix plants, aggregates stations and road binders.
