The constant efforts for quality occupational health and safety standards at Holcim (Romania) have been once more recognized through an audit performed by Holcim Group in co-operation with British Safety Council. This certification, in addition to the one received from TUV in 2003, proves that the standards of the company are in line with the European requirements in the field.
Holcim (Romania) received the "OH&S Pyramid" certification, which confirms that the occupational health and safety standards (OH&S) of the company are in line with the internal standards of Holcim Group. The aim of this pyramid is to address essential requirements for establishing, implementing and recognizing a good practice code of OH&S performance.
"Holcim (Romania) has always been concerned with the safety of each employee and collaborator by offering optimum health and safety conditions at all its working points. Our annual investments in technological modernization of our cement, ready-mixed concrete, and aggregates plants include projects for increasing the safety level and for improving the working conditions," said Markus Wirth, General Manager of Holcim (Romania).
The first step related to occupational health and safety aspects was the OHSAS 18001 management certification the company received in 2003 from TUV Rheinland Berlin - Brandenburg. Thus, Holcim (Romania) was the first company in its field of activity in Romania, which successfully implemented in a fully Integrated Management System and received in 2003 a triple certification for quality management (ISO 9001), environment management (ISO 14001) and occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001).
Each year significant investments are directed towards best quality work and protection equipments, rehabilitation or replacement of degraded protection devices, improvement of working conditions, and instruction of personnel (courses on OH&S legislation, first aid, etc.).
This year Holcim (Romania) will implement a series of new OH&S projects, which will complement the already traditional ones:
- the organization of the OH&S week in all working points
- the development of the campaign "Safety at home" for all employees
- the editing of an internal mini-guide on work safety
- the launch of new courses on OH&S with internal and external trainers.
The successful implementation of all occupational health and safety projects will further contribute to maintain Holcim (Romania) on the high level of companies offering safe working places to all employees.
