Moreover, the Câmpulung cement plant ranked among the top 3 Best Performers in 2014, within the same competition organized annually by Holcim Group.

This recognition is the result of the long term strategic investments made by Holcim in Romania, exceeding EUR 700 Million, and focusing on implementing the Best Available Techniques. This allowed us to increase production performance, increase the resource efficiency of our production processes by reducing the consumption of materials and energy, as well as to reduce emissions of all sorts.

The Holcim Plant Awards is annually organized to recognize outstanding achievements in overall cement plant performance. Starting 2013, the winners are selected into two new categories: the Best Performers 2014 and the Best Sustainable Performers over the last five years.

In 2014, a total of 77 integrated cement plants of Holcim Group were considered for the analysis. The selection of the winner is based on three different criteria:

  • Sustainability category – including Environmental Performance, Plant Condition, Raw Material Management, Product Quality and CAPEX.
  • Efficiency category – including Production Efficiency, Mean Time Between Failure, Thermal Energy Consumption and Electrical Energy Consumption.
  • Cost category - including Production Cost, Maintenance Expenses, Electrical Energy Cost and Thermal Energy Cost.

On top of technical criteria, occupational health & safety was also a decisive criteria for a plant to be eligible for the awards, strengthening once again the importance of our safety culture, with the ultimate goal of “Zero Harm to People”. Considering these criteria, Campulung and Alesd cement plants were rewarded for their consistent performance over the years. The constant striving towards production efficiency and optimization, environmental protection and safety, the constant investments into the professional development of a strong team, as well as the concern in providing our customers tailored solutions, placed Holcim Romania among the best performing production units within Holcim Group.

In the Overall Performance Index, Campulung ranked 3rd and Alesd 4th place. But more important is the recognition of the sustainable performance over the years.
