Holcim Romania continues the project of good deeds and invests EUR 18,000 in the rehabilitation of a new athletic field

Campulung, September 15th, 2015 – Holcim Romania has inaugurated today, September 15th, the new athletic field of Campulung Technical College, as part of the project “Holcim hands you the rally of good deeds”.

The investment is a landmark of the Technical College in Câmpulung, which has a history of 113 years of activity and where 900 students are currently studying. The renovation project consisted of the reconstruction of the exterior area, by pouring tartan, restoring the markings, the separating fence and the stands. The field was officially launched through a football exhibition match, in the presence of local authorities, teachers and students of the school.

“Câmpulung Technical College prides itself with a consistent participation in sports competitions organized at municipal, county and even national level, in a multitude of fields: table tennis, chess, modern or traditional dance, cheerleaders’ competition, handball, basketball and, of course, football, which is so loved by the students. We are happy that Holcim Romania, a major member of the community in Câmpulung, has decided to contribute to the renovation of our athletic field. The pupils’ efforts are now recognized and encouraged to achieve new sports achievements”, declared Adriana Nedelcu, Principal of Câmpulung Technical College.

“We are proud we can contribute to the future of students, who need support in the development of their sports performance, as well as the development of sports classes in optimum and safe conditions. We want to get actively and significantly involved in the training of the future generation and we are happy this happens now and here, in Câmpulung, where hundreds of students from the local community can now benefit from an athletic field at modern standards”, declared Emil Raicov, the manager of Holcim Câmpulung plant.

”We are already at the second episode in the series of our good deeds made in Romanian schools. Sustainable development starts with such initiatives and materializes in wide-scope actions, at local or national level, which, eventually, can be simply evaluated, through the joy of those who carry forward the values of a society: children. The project Holcim hands you the rally of good deeds started in Focșani, was already taken over by other companies and implemented in other local communities and we are decided to take it further, in order to consolidate the foundation of a solid future. We invite even more companies to join this undertaking, unique in Romania”, mentioned Alina Cristea, Sustainable Development Manager Holcim Romania.

The renovation of the athletic field of the Technical College in Câmpulung is the second project developed by Holcim Romania as part of the campaign “Holcim hands you the rally of good deeds”. On April 27th, 2015, Holcim Romania inaugurated a new field also in Alexandru Ioan Cuza National College in Focșani, where over 1,000 students fulfilled the dream of having their sports classes organized in optimum conditions and continue their athletic performances.

In the fall of 2014, Holcim Romania started on its official Facebook page the contest “Holcim awards your school with an A+ sports field!”, under the umbrella of “Masons School” project. The results achieved were impressing: 100 schools entered the competition, over 100,000 people who followed and voted the participants, thousands of comments and shares on Facebook. At the end of the competition, “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” National College in Focșani won the rehabilitation of the athletic field in the amount of EUR 15,000.

With the competition initiated by Holcim Romania, students and teachers from around the country signaled a real need of schools in Romania: the lack of sports ground infrastructure. This is the reason why Holcim launched the challenge to recondition a sports field to other companies as well, under the umbrella campaign: “Holcim hands you the rally of good deeds”. More details about the initiative, as well as the list of schools with athletic fields which require rehabilitation are available on Holcim website: www.holcim.ro/itipredastafeta.html

The rehabilitation of the athletic field initiative is part of Masonry School program, a free professional training program, offered by Holcim Romania, which was specially designed and developed for masons who want a specialization in the field and want to be updated regarding the newest techniques of construction and the best materials used in masonry. Holcim Romania launched the Masonry School project in 2012, in which approximately 550 masons have been trained. The graduates of the Masonry School have the possibility of receiving an official certification of competences by the National Qualifications Authority.
