Holcim Romania launched the first digital handbook in Romania, The green lesson – Create your environment!

Bucharest, March 27th – Holcim Romania launched “The green lesson – Create your environment!”, the first digital handbook ever developed in Romania. This is an interactive environment education course dedicated to pupils in grades III – VII (aged between 8 and 13).

Through this handbook, Holcim Romania and the Ministry of National Education want to raise awareness of the pupils, parents and entire local community with regard to environmental protection. The pupils can access the digital handbook online, at www.lectiaverde.ro, from any computer with Internet connection, or can download it on iPad, using iBooks.
The interactive ecology course is a modern educational tool that marks the start of a new stage in the development of Romanian educational means, being conceived as a pioneering initiative. The digital handbook, “The green lesson – Create your environment!” is an initiative of Holcim Romania, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, and was developed by Read Forward.
“I believe that the Romanian educational system should be forward looking. Technology, smart phones, tablets, computers are part of our children’s and our own daily lives. How the information is presented becomes increasingly important for us, as adults, and even more so for our children. The digital environment allows for interactivity and dynamism that the young people expect, so I think this project is a promising start”, declared Remus Pricopie, Minister of National Education.

Our children must learn about the environmental impact of our behavior and about the importance of protecting the environment. The digital handbook we are launching provides the pupils in an interactive and attractive format with the information they need to make informed and responsible decisions that take into consideration the need to preserve the natural resources and protect the environment", declared Daniel Bach, General Director Holcim Romania.
The digital handbook comes as a natural continuation of the first environmental education handbook for children launched in 2004 at the initiative of Holcim Romania, developed with the approval and in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports.
Due to its success, “Create the environment” was introduced already in 2008 in the national offer of optional courses for pupils in the III – VII grades, approved by the Ministry of National Education. The handbooks for pupils and the methodological guides for teachers were developed already at the start of the program.
The optional object is currently taught in 250 schools across Romania, and the digital handbook can be introduced in all schools with computers and internet connection, in those classes which choose the optional “Green lesson – Create your environment!”.
