Following a total investment worth over EUR 120 million, the modernization of the cement plant in Campulung was concluded in June and brings a 30% additional cement production capacity to Holcim (Romania), which will support the growing demand of cement on the local market.

The modernization activities at the cement plant in Campulung, started at the end of 2005, set some records:
- the construction of the highest industrial building in Romania: the pre-heater tower of 135 m top of stack;
- largest new kiln built by Holcim in Eastern Europe, offering a cement production capacity of around 2 million tones per year;
- largest clinker silos in reinforced concrete in Romania with latest construction technology 2 X 75,000 tones;
- impressive dimensions of the pre-blending hall: 162 meters length, 76 meters wide (one span), 25 meters height (surface larger than a football ground).

"The modernization of the cement plant in Campulung marks the final stage of the renovation wave started many years ago the Alesd plant. We have always invested in quality and performance, with a special emphasis on the protection of the environment. The investments in the Campulung plant are also a proof for our commitment to satisfy the increasing needs for cement of our customers," said Markus Wirth, Country Manager of Holcim (Romania).

"The new kiln line replaces the three outdated smaller kilns that had been operational since 1972, which underlines once again our effort to own and operate the best available technologies. The new production line of the cement plant in Campulung has completely automated installations, which allow the production of best and constant quality cement, with a minimum impact on the environment," added Emil Raicov, Director of the Campulung Cement Plant.

An additional EUR 75 million investment at the cement plant in Campulung will be started this year and finalized in 2009. These new investment activities will be directed towards various projects such as the clinker grinding lines, transportations to silos, expansion of bulk cement loading points.
