Holcim (Romania) offers the concrete truck to the young Eco-promoters from "Ion Creanga" Eco-school in Suceava. The school was awarded for the information campaign on the environment protection "Together for a greener future", implemented as part of the educational project "Create Your Environment!".
For 40 days, the pupils from the pilot classes at the Eco-school in Suceava developed activities on the protection of the environment in their neighbourhood and parks, edited informative materials, organized exhibitions and contests, collected wastes, planted trees and flowers. The originality of the campaign consisted also in the participation of the pupils and teachers in the cleaning of the train on the route Suceava Campulung Moldovenesc. This campaign was supported by over parents, teachers, over 700 pupils, colleagues of the Eco-promoters, representatives of the Agency for Environmental Protection in Suceava, of the Forest Protection in Solca and of the City Hall of Suceava Municipality.
"The originality of the initiatives registered in the contest by the schools participanting in the educational project "Create Your Environment!" exceeded the expectations of Holcim (Romania). Last year we decided to respond to the need of information of the children regarding the protection of natural resources. The great number of pupils, teachers and parents, who got involved in the activities of the project, proves once more that our decision was a good one," said Luminita Oprea, Communication Manager, Holcim (Romania) SA.
The campaign took place during the period March 7th - April 30th 2005 within the contest "The Best Eco-promoters". The contest was developed simultaneously in 20 schools, which participated in the project "Create Your Environment!" in Alesd, Arad, Baia Mare, Bistrita, Brasov, Bucharest, Campulung Muscel, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Oradea, Pitesti, Ploiesti, Ramnicu-Valcea, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Suceava, Timisoara, Targu Mures and Turda. Over 15,000 pupils, together with their parents and friends, and with more than 500 teachers, took part in these campaigns in their cities.
"The contest was not just a challenge addressed to participant schools for testing the way the communication, argumentative and collaboration skills of the pupils had developed within the project "Create Your Environment!". The contest was also a good occasion for having as many pupils as possible involved in activities for the protection of the environment, and for transferring information naturally, from friend to friend," added Radu Mateescu, Executive President, Concept Foundation.
The project "Create Your Environment!" was developed during the school year 2004-2005, was financed by Holcim (Romania) SA and implemented by Concept Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research. The project was designed for pupils registered in primary and secondary school, IVth and Vth grades, in order to create a civic behaviour for the protection of the environment.
