Holcim (Romania) maintains its upward trend, as 2004 is the best year in terms of financial and operational performance: Holcim Romania increased its turnover by 10%.

Due to its investments in quality, services and market innovation, Holcim managed to record a continuous growth year by year - the turnover for 2004 being of more than EUR 118 mil.

"We kept on providing quality, innovative services for our customers, taking advantage of the strength and vast international experience of the Holcim Group and adding the local spirit of strong dynamic leadership. 2004 has been a very good year for our company - the best Holcim (Romania) ever had. Our investments in Romania will continue in 2005, when we intend to invest more than EUR 32 mil in launching three new environmentally friendly concrete plants in Bucharest, Timisoara and Targu Mures, and modernizing the ready-mixed concrete plant in Brasov. Other investments will envisage the modernization of the production lines in Campulung and Alesd cement plants, in order to expand the existing waste co-processing capacities to a larger range of wastes," said Markus Wirth, Country Manager Holcim (Romania).

Since Turda cement plant acquisition in 1997, Holcim has been continuously modernizing and expanding its business - its investments in Romania counting approximately EUR 300 mil. The company owns in Romania 3 cement plants, 13 ready-mixed concrete plants - out of which 8 are built under an environmentally friendly concept - and 3 aggregate plants.

This year, Holcim became the first company in Romania to receive triple certification for quality assurance (ISO 9001:2001), environmental management (ISO 14001:1997) and occupational health and safety (OSHAS 18001:1999) for all of its businesses and all its locations.

2004 was full of events: Under EUR 70 million investment, Holcim inaugurated most modern cement production line in Romania at Alesd plant, and under EUR 3,5 mil investment, Holcim inaugurated the first white cement production line in Romania, at its plant in Turda. After investing more than EUR 1,5 million in cutting-edge technology, Holcim (Romania) SA, launched in Chitila the first Environmentally Friendly Concrete Plant (EFCP) in Bucharest. Bucharest-Chitila is the 8th EFCP in the network of concrete plants that Holcim owns in Romania. The care for environmental protection has always been a top priority for the company, important investments of more than EUR 17 mil having been made in environmental protection since 1997.

In order to meet the future needs of the customers, Holcim developed new solutions, products and services. Bucharest Dispatch Center is a service launched by Holcim Romania to improve the system of taking and delivering the orders in Bucharest and its surroundings. Holcim opened in Bucharest Progresul - a cement terminal that brings its products and services closer to its customers, allowing them to receive their orders very quickly.

All Holcim trucks now have Global Positioning System, a monitoring system of the physical distribution activity of Holcim products, assuring maximum efficiency of the distribution process.

One of the most important commitments taken by Holcim, year by year, is the Corporate Social Responsibility . Two major initiatives of this kind have been undertaken in 2004: the inauguration of the Technical Apprenticeship School for Cement Technicians in Alesd, and initiating a series of manuals on environmental protection - "Create your environment" project. Holcim (Romania) has developed various communitarian projects, building an image of good citizen and supporting local communities in the cities where the company operates.
